Episode 84: Meet the new regents

In this episode, we talk to three newly elected regents about their backgrounds and goals for their six-year terms. The Minnesota State Legislature voted to elect four new regents: James Farnsworth, Kodi Verhalen, Ruth Johnson and Doug Huebsch. These four regents replaced Michael Hsu, Tom Anderson, Richard Beeson and Randy Simonson. In this episode, we get to know university student James Farnsworth, engineer and lawyer Kodi Verhalen and internal medicine physician Ruth Johnson.

We learn about the many years Winona has been on the front lines fighting against sands pipelines, and we hear from her about what she says is a better plan. We also speak with University student and MN350 intern Karly Beaumont at a rally she helped organize about the student movement to stop Line 3.

Episode75: With $5 million grant, University seeks to change relationship with Minnesota’s tribal nations

The University of Minnesota will use grant money for the recently announced Minnesota Transform Initiative to examine their historical relationship with Minnesota’s tribal nations. The project will compile digital storytelling projects, research University/tribal relations and provide funding toward the school’s Ojibwe and Dakota language programs. In this episode, we spoke with faculty leaders on the project and the Executive Director of the Minnesota Indian Affairs Council to learn more about the initiative and how it will mean for the University's relationship with the 11 Tribal Nations of Minnesota.
